Prove the Selke side of your client's game.

Goals and assists get a contract. Positioning, reads and off-puck discipline win games and never show up on the sheet. Selke grades that half of the game from film: where a player was, where the system wanted him, and what the gap cost in expected goals. A number you can put in front of a general manager, with the video attached.

The idea

Impact, not activity.

Right spot, not most miles.

Distance skated and hit counts are activity. Being where the play needed you is impact. Selke grades the second and refuses to headline the first.

Graded against the system.

Every read is scored against the team's own breakout, forecheck and coverage, not a generic ideal. The same play grades differently in different systems, and it should.

One number, one scale.

Every gap is priced in expected goals. Fourteen feet off the support spot on a breakout is worth something specific, and the grade says what.

Always with the video.

No grade without the clip, the ghost, and a plain-language reason. If a general manager asks why, you show him.

For agents

Evidence for the contract table.

Arbitration and contract talks run on production numbers because that is what exists. Selke gives you the defensive half: a season-long positional grade, the reps behind it, and the expected-goals value of the plays your client made without the puck. It is the case for a two-way forward that the stat sheet cannot make on its own.

  • Season defensive-impact grade for each player
  • Every rep clip-linked, with the ghost and the gap in feet
  • Graded against the player's own team system, not a league average
  • A report a general manager can read in five minutes

The ghost

Where he was. Where the system wanted him.

For every decision moment, Selke draws a ghost: the position the team's system expected, learned from outcomes on their own film. The dashed line is the gap, in feet. Toggle between what the player did and what the system wanted, and the difference is on the ice in front of you.

  • A ghost density, not a single dot: the range of positions that worked
  • The gap in feet at the moment the play tipped
  • What the gap cost, in expected goals, on one scale for every rep
  • Counterfactual replay: what happens if the support arrives

For programs

A development tool coaches trust.

Junior, prep and college programs teach systems for a living. Selke shows each player his reps against the system he was taught, ranked by how much the miss mattered, with the drill to fix it. Coaches keep the eye test. Selke shows them what it missed.

  • Transition feed ranked by deviation and leverage, not by clock
  • Review queue with coach override, so the eye test wins the ties
  • Player development arcs across a season, not a single game
  • Loop mode for burst review and building a reel in minutes

How it works

Your film. A fixed camera. No wearables.

Selke works from the fixed-camera film a program already shoots. No sensors, no vests, no hardware on the player. Computer vision turns the footage into positions for every skater and the puck, event detection finds the breakouts, entries and turnovers, and the outcome model learns which positions led to which results on that team's own film. That is where the grade comes from: results, not a rulebook we wrote.

  • PositionsEvery skater and the puck, in ice coordinates, from the corner camera.
  • EventsExits, entries, turnovers and takeaways found in the film. These are the labels that make the grade honest.
  • OutcomesThe model learns which positions led to clean exits and which led to turnovers, inside this team's system.
  • The gradeGhost gap times leverage, priced in expected goals, shown over the clip with the reason in plain language.

About

Named after the trophy for the half of the game nobody counts.

The Frank J. Selke Trophy goes to the forward who plays the best defensive game: positioning, anticipation, the right lane, discipline without the puck. None of it is on the score sheet. Selke AI is the product that makes it measurable. It is built by SaaSquach AI Labs, a division of Charles & Roe Inc., in Ontario. Founded by Drew Mattie.
